Sharyn Owen from twenty eight poems
Poems
Charge of the Grandchildren

…and the tide’s on the turn

and the sun’s on the sea

and we’re having a picnic,

it seems.

Poems
Going Home from the Beach

Every tired footstep

bites through hot sand into cold

“Hurry up!” calls mum

but I would rather stay here

and live in a blue beach hut.

Poems
Red, White and Blue

Say “Red, White and Blue” to me –
I feel a pinprick in my knee.
It’s Coronation Day, June 1953.
